The year was 1911. Using their own machine shop the brothers were soon creating spare engine parts, and then entire engines. In 1920 they mounted a 98cc engine on a bicycle frame and so began the Benelli cycle brand. One brother, Tonino, became famous, winning many races on the company‘s motorbikes. The brand lost some of its luster in the mid 1900s, but in the 1990s the company introduced the Tornado, and also was acquired by Group Qianjiang of China, but the cycles continue to be built in Pesaro.
